ATA Carnet Specifics

To successfully enter Mexico with your Carnet, please be prepared with the following:

  • Translation in Spanish of the general list
  • Submit the ATA Carnet Foreign Registration form required by Mexico Customs; all Carnets must be registered online prior to arrival in Mexico.
  • Mexico Customs will limit the time the ATA Carnets can remain in Mexico to six months.
  • Goods must depart Mexico by the Final Date of Re-exportation noted on the importation counterfoil box 2.
  • If the ATA Carnet goods need to stay in Mexico beyond the initial six months, request the extension at the port of entry prior to the Final Date for Re-exportation noted in box 2 of the Importation Counterfoil.

Procedural guidelines for the treatment of ATA Carnet by Mexico Customs:

* Effective immediately all Mexican Customs offices at all ports are authorized to handle ATA Carnets.
